We are looking to go to Jaisalmer in May. We are flying from Mumbay to Jodhpur and we'd like to know which bus or train companies travel this route and whether there are choices for luxury bus or train accomodation. We'd also like to know how long does it take to go from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer and then from Jaisalmer to Jaipur by bus or train....if anyone knows cost (USD) of transportation it would be helpful.

Click on the train information link below, then scroll down the page and you'll find a list of hundreds of routes used by tourists, click on 'Jodhpur - Jaisalmer' and you'll be taken to a new page listing all the trains between Jodhpur and Jaisalmer (in both directions), the train times are listed as well as the classes of accommodation available on those trains and the cost.
The prices are in Indian Rupees.
1US$ = 44 Rupees.

There are many buses from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer. It takes about 4 hours. I took one that left Jodhpur in the afternoon.and i don't remember the exact fare but somethng less than two USDollars. There are trains too but not many. From Jodhpur take a prepaid autoriksha and in about 20mnts you will reach the bus stand.
Sorry can not suggest you from Jaisalmer to Jaipur.
All the best.

Are you sure it only takes 4 hours on the bus?
That’s an average of over 70 Kms an hour, I thought Indian buses were programmed to self-destruct when they reached 50 Kms. ; )

Hi,
Jodhpur - Jaisalmer is about 300 kms and takes about 6 hrs by private car. There is also overnight train to Jaislamer from Jodhpur.
From Jaisalmer -Jaipur, the train is the best option. The train starts in afternoon from Jaisalmer and reaches Jaipur early monring.
For train details visit the website http://www.indianrail.gov.in/

hope this is useful.
regards

Steven's right.
It's way more than 4 hours on the bus. Try for at least 6 and, if there's a couple of rest stops on the way, you could be looking more like 7 hours to do the journey.
Cheers

I traveled by bus from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer. At 9am I bought a ticket (92 rupees) for the 9:10 AM bus; we finally cleared Jodhpur by 10AM andarrived at Jaisalmer about 3:30 pm. Time included a 25 min. lunch stop at Pokharan, 20 miles from birthplace of India's atomic bomb. You'll most likely encounter some touts during the lunch stop who'll begin to offer you some accommodation options in Jaisalmer. Would suggest you ask/listen but make no promises.
