Dear all.

Is there any rule that says that you can't apply for an Indian visa when you already have one running in your passport? ie. I have a visa still valid from a trip in April which expires soon. I want to apply for a visa for November - can I do this or do I have to wait for the first visa to expire?

Thanks lots!

It's my understanding that you can't get another visa while your current one is valid.

You have to arrange to have it cancelled and then another one allocated.

It would be wiser to wait (if you can) for the existing one to expire and then re-apply.

You have to wait till the first expires. Besides, the visa is valid from the date of issue so it's usually a good idea to wait until the last possible moment to get your visa.

When you apply for a new visa, your old one will be cancelled out, you don't have to wait until it expires. It's o.k. if you only have 2-3 weeks left, but no point if it's a couple of months.

I got a new Indian visa even though I still had a valid visa for India already. I only had 3 weeks left on the first visa.

Just for clarity. I managed to get through to the Birmingham Consulate here in the UK who tell me that it is fine to apply for a new visa while an existing one is still in-date.

Cheers.
