hi there,
here is my question:
my last indian visa was from 28 August 2009 to 27 February 2010, so it was 6 months multiple enter...
for health problem i had to fly out from India to Thailand on the 4 of February.
i know about this rule/law that you have to stay outside of India to months before you can apply for a new one.
Now, how do they apply this rule??
does anybody knows if they consider the date of expiring(in my case 27 February) of the visa or the date that i flew out of that country($ February)??
even because in the time this rule has been on, i heard so many different case, like you got a new visa before 2 months passed, but you got problem once you landed in India at the immigration office.
i know i can walk to the embassy and ask direct to them....but.....well, i would like to avoid this, i know already how the indian people at the embassy are not so available...
anyway, on my part, before to get the risk that they refuse my new application, i'll wait till the 27 of April to apply a new one:
from the other side i think i can apply from the 4 April because at that time 2 months are already passed: but officially they can easily tell to wait till the other date that is stamped on my last visa.
i hope that my question is clear enough!!!!
take care there and keeping moving!
ciao

The rules keep evolving so there is no certainty. The one month waiting time for an apllication seems to be going away. But wait! There is more. Now that seems to have been replaced by the two month rule between visits (according to the last official document I have read from Travisa (not a government agency). If this the case then you should be fine for May 1 or so (roughly counting out the 60 days). Life is change and this visa policy is the poster child for that.
Cheers..

We applied for a new visa on the day our old one expired and we had no problems.

The 2 month rule is only for entries so as long as you come back after 4th of April you're OK.

EHHHHHHHHHH tks guys!!!!

I do not want to wait less than two months but I do not want to wait more than 2 months.
everything depends on them, if they consider the date of expiry of the visa i will have
wait until the end of April, but if, as the logic says, they'll consider the
date when I left India as the beginning of two months waiting, it would be
fantastic for me.
so, if its true that the 2 months rule is only for entries date and this does not involve the dates printed on the visa i'll be fine...
in other case, after this, i'll probably put a cross on the india country as long as they don't let to get in easly....
like italian citizen i always have to struggle to get 6 months visa: and i have to considering that each indian visa cost more o less 50 euro!!!!plus the flight to get inand out....this let me think how much money i spend anytime i go there...

Yes, for Italians there is some intergovernmental spat that usually keeps the visa at 3 months. Visa costs are getting higher around the world so if you get a 6 month'er consider the per day cost as minimal..

I am an italian citizen. I could get 6 months touristic visa by appying for it abroad , in another EU country... :=)

Now that is an odd irony. Must be a local tiff not known to other consulates..
