Hi, I have read all of the posts on this topic without any luck answering my specific question.

We are travelling London to Sri Lanka via Mumbai on Saturday. I have USA passport, my boyfriend has UK passport. We are planning to check baggage. Our first flight is British Airways, our second flight is a SEPARATE BOOKING and is Sri Lankan airlines (both are OneWorld alliance).

Since these are separate bookings, I don't think they will check our baggage all the way through to Sri Lanka.

So: Do we need TRANSIT visas?

I thought I could get a Transit visa online, but the only online service is for e-Tourist visa, which is trying to charge me $100+ each for the privilege. The Tourist visa is in person / by mail only and I now do not have enough time before our flight on Saturday to get this in person.

I read somewhere on here that some airport staff retrieved their luggage for them from outside security, so they did not need the visa. Should we rely on this?

Thank you
Ariel

I would be surprised if they don't check your luggage all the way through. Call BA and ask.

As part of the OneWorld Alliance, Sri Lankan and BA will have an interline agreement, and your luggage will be booked all the way through.

Telephone BA.

As above.

Thanks for your responses.

I have already asked BA and they said they will not guarantee an onward journey for my baggage because they are separate bookings. One booking with BA, the other with SRA.

Any other advise please regarding the need for the transit visa, in the context of my baggage NOT being checked all the way through?

Thanks

No. Transit visas means leaving the transit area and going through Immigration , or staying more than 24 hours.

Yes , that is a standard thing that is handled by the Transit Desk. I have done this in other Asian airports but not in Delhi . You’ll find two recent posters doing it passing thru Delhi here , also with two different airlines involved ( last two posts) .
