As long as you know the hotel name and address, the pre-paid taxi at the airport is just as convenient as a hotel pickup (and possibly better).

And there will be plenty of people in the streets at 3am in Paharganj ;-)

there might be people out on the streets at 3am in paharganj.... but they might not be the type of people you want to encounter wandering around the streets at 3am! book ahead. i'd say almost all hotels in paharganj now ofer this service. i just googled hotel namaskar, a small (but popular and well-reviewed) hotel off the main bazaar that i stayed in in '99 and even they have a website now. website their pick-up is 400 rs.

There are 2 pre-paid taxi booths at the airport. One is run by the New Delhi Police Association. The other is run by a private consortium.

Go with the police booth - you won't get ripped off.

As you leave the airport, you will need to show the pre-paid taxi docket to the men at the table on the sidewalk, who will check off the details and then return the docket to you.

Hold onto your docket until you get to Pahar Ganj and then (and only then), give the docket to the driver.

And, I don't know if I've mentioned this before or not, if you arrive at 2325hrs. you should be out of the airport within the hour and at Pahar Ganj around 40 minutes later.

Cheers
Zoltan
