What do you think about Guruvayur (near Thrissur – Kochi region)? Is it worth going there to see elephants (that’s the only reason why I’m thinking about that place)? How much elephants it’s possible to see there? That time is the best to see bathing elephants?
Thanks in advance for you opinions,
Regards
Magda

The temple has around 20+ elephants, all tuskers. You can spend as much time as you want inside during visiting hours(may be 9 to 5, can't remember), watch them being bathed and also buy food(bananas etc) for them. I am not sure if you will be allowed to feed them yourself though.
As there are many elephants, bathing them goes for almost entire day, one at a time in a small pond. You may be able to assist the Mahouts in the bathing rituals, but not sure about this again. The elephants are cared for their health and looked after by giving plenty of food, but are chained harshly and most of them look perennial SAD. It is a depressing sight. I was there 3-4 months ago and would not want to return there again, primarily because it is a depressing sight. You can read more about it on my blog
