I’ll be traveling to Leh next week. If all goes well, I’ll arrive in Leh on Monday. Can anyone recommend a reasonable guesthouse? Not to shabby-not to chic (expensive)! Good location near central traveler area and market?
Thanks

For a good mid-level gh look for the garden in front ( good eats ) and the yellow solar water heater ( showers without relying on Lehs flaky power supply) on top . The traditional Ladakhi dry toilet on the north side , upstairs , fuels the garden , gives you the nice veggies and doesnt poison the water supply. Tons of places along Chanspa Lane , go up or down by the bridge to find a more quiet spot .

On my recent visit to Leh in June I stayed at Khan Manzil guest house. Its located near the mosque area, just 2 minutes walking distance from market. There is nothing pretty about the alley which leads up to Khan Manzil but everyone in Leh seems to know the guest house and their owners very well. Also, from the upper storey balcony and windows the snow capped mountains are clearly visible. We stayed there for 10 days in total.

When we went for overnight trips to Nubra, Pangong, Tso Moriri and Dah-Hanu we left our big suitcase under the care of the family. When I had an upset tummy their homecooked meal saved me. Also, they helped us with all sorts of things.

The rooms, though basic are very warm and cosy with 24x7 running hot and cold water. There is also a WiFi!! The only con is the frequent power cuts. We paid INR 1200 for a twin room per night.
