Hello,

I plan to visit Leh (have not been researching much yet, but am aware that a permit may be required for some instances).

Since I will only be in India for less than 2 months, I plan to get an eVisa on arrival.

However, I am not sure if an eVisa will be eligible for the above mentioned permits, and are there any differences from the normal 6 months tourist visa?

Thanks!

For Leh itself, no permit is required at all.
For other regions in Ladakh around Leh, you'll find more information on this thread https://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/forums/asia-indian-subcontinent/topics/new-laws-on-protected-area-permits-in-ladakh

90+ percent of Ladakh is permit free areas , starting with the Indus valley. The evisa , first hand experience, gives you the same limitations as the regular visas : they are not enough to give access to Inner Line areas , and you get the permits with same ease as with the regular visa.

And to get nit picking after these two substantive replies its an EVOA not a VOA as you must apply for it in advance and print out the actual visa not just the the email notice..

@funkoho

I plan to get an eVisa on arrival.

Edward makes an excellent point above. The e-Visa must be applied for in advance; and you must print and take with you the Electronic Travel Authority.
