We had enough of dehi so we decided to head north to shimla went to the train station but was closed for reconstruction we went to "government tourist board" and was pretty much forced to take a trip which we didnt want to sringar which was beautiful but when we arrived we were staying on a house boat which was grreat but about an hour or so went by and we were asked by the manager for our passports so they can get copies for their records we were a bit jubious but we did this after about 10 minutes he said so which trips do we want to take we said depends on the prices he give us quotes of really steep prices for trips into the himalays costs around 400 pound sterling for 3 nights camping

we were shocked and we would do our own thing but then asked for our passports back but he wouldnt give them back to us until we booked something so we booked the cheapest trip which was a days boat ride and flights out of there

now we are in goa its fantastic

Just a warning to you all

" ......Was pretty much forced to take a trip which we didnt want(!?) to Srinagar......" Just curious, which methods did they use to force you ? Violence, bribery, trickery....?

Lesson learned?

Never give your passport to anyone.

In my passport is written the follow:

"This passport is the property of the states of the Netherlands. The bearer of this passport may pass it to a third party only if there is a statuary obligation to do so".

Your problems started right there. The station booking office (International Tourist Bureau) is up some steps at New Delhi Station. Don't take the advice of touts loitering around the stairs that it is closed for "holiday/fire/reconstruction." Go up and check yourself.

thats nothing new, the most houseboatowners are really shitty guys, that is for sure, i was there staying on a houseboat as well, and met a lot people from other boats, they where not alowed to leave the baot. there is stuff up to sexual harassment.

we where a quite good team there, so the houseboat owner had a hard time with us, and was happy when we left. you really have to know what you want.

you should never book a houseboat from delhi. the best thing is arrive in srinagar a have a look for yourself.

and yes, who told you the trainstation is closed?? haha, .... sorry, but this old trick still works eh??

The oldest trick in the book and extensively written up in the guide books. I always wondered why the scammers did such lame efforts. Now I know that Barnum was right, there is one born every minute. However, if it beats a basic education in the mind you will find it money well spent. Meantime, I have some money in Nigeria that I would like to share with you but I need some assistance with expenses..
