Hi there
On our way to SE Asia in September, we would like to spend 5 days in Delhi and Agra area. Is it a good idea to go (since it's the end of the monsoon season)? Or should we skip it? How is the weather going to be? 24h rain?
Sorry it's maybe a super stupid question, but since we've been never to India, we are wondering if it makes sense to travel during the monsoon season.
Thanks
Tinka

Hi tinka
Do not worry Monsoon will be over by than and even if you travel during monsoon, it does not rain 24 hours. It rains for couple of hours and stops or you may not see rain for all those 5 days.
good luck

Delhi is fine, although still a bit hot in September (not unbearable though). Definitely worth a stop.
Great. Thank you so much! You really helped me with my decision.
Another question: 5-6 days in Delhi, where should we go and what should we see?
Cheers
;-) Tinka

You might like to start with a coach tour of New Delhi which is run by Delhi Tourism to familiarise yourself with the city first.
See the Red Fort (and the Light and Sound show there in the evening), Humayun's tomb, Kutub Minar, Jantar Mantar for monuments. You might also like to see Rashtrapati Bhavan -- the President's house (was the Viceroy's residence in the British days), Parliament House.
Also India Gate and Rajghat (Mahatma Gandhi's memorial). Also on every tourist itinerary (and justifiably so) is the Lotus Temple of the Bah'ai faith. Marvellous monument.
For ethnic shopping locations (interesting and eclectic village formats), check out Dilli Haat, the Hauz Khas Village and Santushti Complex. Highly recommended.
Do not miss getting a meal at Bukhara at the Maurya Sheraton Hotel, considered by many to be the world's best Indian restaurant (North West Frontier actually)
You can take a early morning train to Agra on any of the days. It is called the Shatabdi express, leaves at 6 am and reaches Agra at about 8 am. Leaves Agra on return at about 7 pm and gets back to Delhi about 9 pm. More than enough time to see the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort.

don't go on the coach tour. spend a bit more money and get a taxi plus driver for the day. then see the sights at your own pace - allows you to start much earlier when its cooler better light for photography. more freedom to stop longer etc.
Bukhara - pass. Ate there 2 years ago. They had menus on fake stone slabs and your table was a fake tree stump if I remember correctly. Much better Indian food at Chor Bizarre.
In Agra it might be worth taking the city tour as that gets you to fatehpur sikri as well. Otherwise cab is again a good option - you'll have to negotiate hard at the train station.
6 days allows a quick delhi agra jaipur circuit
