Will arrive in Delhi end Sept and then spend six days there, I am a female on my own, and a bit nervous of this, what advise on where to go and what to do. I want to save the Taj Mahal for my return the following month as will be with a friend who wants to see this and another temple in Delhi. Is it worth going to Rajasthan how far and what way to get there? or Jaipur.. any advise welcome.

If your second trip is also short, you could go to Jaipur for a day then. Or do it whilst in Delhi the first trip. Its just that it would be easier to go from Agra to jaipur and back to Delhi. That's why its called a triangle. I liked the palace in Jaipur. The fort was ok. I think i might not be a fort person but then i haven't been to many, so will do a few more before giving up.

In Delhi, i loved the Craft Museum. The national museum is recommended but i haven't been yet. Next time.
The Jain Bird Hospital opposite the Red Fort in Delhi, if you are over that way. Its near Chandni Chowk. YOu will probably be over that way at some point.

Read the City of Djinns by William Dalrymple.

Since you'll be going back in one month and head to Agra, you'll probably also go to Jaipur.

I would thus recommend you spend your six days in Jodhpur and Udaipur, with a day trip in Ranakpur.

I think i misunderstood your question. i thought you wanted to be in delhi but now i think you want to just get out of delhi. If so, then rajasthan probably is quite a good idea for a few days. You could do what strawberita suggests or even take the overnight train to jaisalmer from delhi and spend the whole time out there - this town is one of many people's india highlights. you could do a camel safari into the desert for a day or two. Jodhpur is on the way so you could stop off there on your return if you wanted/had time.
