Hi - This is probably too much information, but I'm going through a painful separation/divorce. I need to get away and for whatever reason, I'm drawn to India. I'm going to spend a week at the Ananda Spa in Dehradun. I'm traveling alone and the spa is a bit fancy for me, but I've decided to treat myself. I'm flying into Delhi. Any suggestions on must see/do in Delhi? Any other tips will be very helpful - I've got a layover in Dubai (2 days) - any suggestions there? Thanks so much!

If you have some time to spare in Delhi, may I suggest you get in touch with this operator who does walks and food tours in Delhi.

I hope your trip will help a little of what you are going through.

BTW, have you worked out your travel arrangements for Dehradun ?

@klorince

It will be easiest if you fly from Delhi to Dehradun and take a taxi from there - although I suspect Ananda would be more than happy to pick you up from the airport.

Ananda is not in Dehradun, but is in the hills above and beyond Rishikesh. It is about 40-45 minutes drive from the airport.

Well, Delhi has so much to offer; what sorts of thing interests you most?

Hire a car+driver for both days through your hotel.

Day 1: Jama Masjid / Chandhi Chowk / Raj Gahat / Coronation Canopy, India Gate, Presidential Palace / Qtub Minar

Day 2: Humayun’s Tomb / Connaught Place / Khan Market / Dilli Haat / Hauz Khas Village / the 14th century ruins of the city of Siri

The Salaam Batak Trust walk in Delhi is really interesting - I did it about 3 or 4 years ago.

The Red Fort is pretty impressive.

If you fancy a bit of retail therapy in Delhi, Khan Market is good.

Thank you Paul - I have just started planning the trip and may work with a travel agent here in Dallas - she is recommending a flight from Delhi to Jolly Grant.

Have you been to Ananda?

I haven't stayed at Ananda, but have visited. I am a big fan of Rishikesh, so it's in the neighborhood (so to speak).

I like LS's suggestions a lot. However, I would dump the Masjid for the Red Fort as it has been nicely renovated. Raj Ghat for an Indian. But, most likely you will drive by it as the Presidential Palace, Cupula, Gate. I would want to see the gardens at PP. But, I d on't know when those are open for viewing. A huge ditto for day 2. Don't know how to fit it all even in even with two days but the Lodhi tombs are very relaxing place, great to decompress..

Try the Southern part of India. Kerala, Mangalore, Goa. Beaches and greenery to make up your mind.
Well in Dubai try to visit the Burj Khalifa, Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Miracle garden. If you are a racing lover, give a visit to Ferrari world in Abu Dhabi, an hour's drive from Dubai city.
