I'm planning to leave from Singapore to India (Delhi) in mid March and travel in the North for 8-10 weeks. I'm aware that it could be getting quite hot at this time of year and I might still be around when the monsoon starts. Is it to hot to really walk around town and do stuff in May? Also I'm very keen on doing the Manali - Leh route but from what I read it is not 'officially' open at the time I'lll be there. Are there still buses that do the route anyway? Has anyone done any treks from Leh in May, I'm worred that they could still be snowbound and not accessable?

Yes, very much.
The Ladakh road usually opens late in May. But you can escape to the hills/mountains in Himachal, Uttaranchal or Sikkim where it will be pleasant. You can also do high/low altitude treks in these regions.
