Hello,

I am planning a trip to India and Nepal and was thinking of traveling by land throughout the entire trip. Indian embassy here in my country requires, as part of the process for acquiring visa, to show a proof of entering/exiting the country, and the bus ticket could be sufficient. I still did not decide whether I will start in India and after that travel to Nepal or the other way around. I was wondering if someone knows if there is a bus line that runs between India and Nepal and that has online ticket sales.

Many thanks,
Dario

There is no direct bus line connecting India and Nepal. You have to get a train or bus up to one of the India/Nepal border crossings; cross the border by foot and then get another bus onwards in Nepal. If starting in Nepal then reverse the process. You won't be able to prebook any bus on-line.
Your best solution is to fly in and out of India; go to and from Nepal overland. You can go in and out on different routes. Make sure to get a double entry visa for India. You show the Indian Embassy your roundtrip ticket, or from different Indian cities. Problem solved.
Have a nice journey

Yes, there is.

The service is provided by the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation is referred to as the Kathmandu Seva. It's an AC Volvo bus that takes approximately 15 hours to complete the journey, making bus travel a more appealing option than previously. It departs Varanasi every second day at 10 p.m. and reaches Kathmandu at 1 p.m. the next day. The route goes via Azamgarh, Gorakhpur and Sunauli, and Bhairahawa. The fare from Varanasi to Kathmandu is 1,360 rupees. Tickets can be booked online at RedBus.in, the UPSRTC website, or at the bus stand in Varanasi.

Buses have been running from Varanasi to Kathmandu for ages . The old rules required switching buses at the border : you left the Indian bus a stone throw away from the Indian checkpoint , walked over to the Nepali checkpoint , showed your ticket & boarded the Nepali bus. It looked a bit chaotic and actually worked fine . All this changed with a new agreement three or four years back : buses now cross the border.

Thanks for reply and info everyone.

Lifesupport, thanks for that link. Unfortunately on that website I cannot book bus ticket online from Varanasi to Kathmandu pass November, and the plan is to go to Nepal at around mid February. I will send them inquiry if it is possible to at least make a reservation for that date, so I can show that to the embassy. Hopefully it will work.

Hey I did the trip as per seat61.com's recommendations and only booked the train beforehand. Buses are very informal and purchased on the bus/at the station.

As for proof of entry and exit for visas. Photoshopping old boarding passes/confirmed flight itineraries you have into new flight itineraries works a charm every time. I understand not everyone can use photoshop though.
