If you are travelling with Kids, these suggested hotels may not live to your expectations as they do not offer much activity for children. Children would require activity and unfortunately though the services of these mentioned home stays is great but do not really offer the freedom of exploring, which Kids would like, Mararikulam would be better choice for Children specially Marari Beach Resort. However the price would be much higher.

If you are adults then it makes complete sense as these are absolutely noise free zones away from the bust life in the cities.

You can consider these budget hotels at Alleppey:

Emerald Isle Heritage Home
Shaanthitheeram Lakeside Heritage Resort
Raheem Residency
Tharakan Heritage Resort

All of these are nice hotels and suitable for family stay :)

Raheem Residency is NOT a budget Hotel, far from it.

The OP has stated his budget at 5-8000 Rps, on Raheem Residency website double/twin rooms are currently available @ 6000Rps, well within the OP's budget !

I prefer lake side resort

Raheem Residency is on the beach side, see the above preference by OP.

I have stayed at Raheem Residency a number of times so I guess this qualifies my above statement.
I will be staying there again later this year, very nice place and I say again it's not a Budget Hotel.

It is if it falls within your budget ! We are all budget travellers, we just don't all have the same budget......

So if your Budget allows you to stay at the Oberoi, it's then considered as a Budget Hotel. Yeah Sure.

Budget is a subjective word, Paul, the sort of people who stay on Nekker Island or at the Burj Khalifa may well consider the Oberoi to be a budget option. You will find repeated examples of people on this forum asking for budget options only to be bombarded by the 'usual suspects' demanding to know what that budget is. In the case of this OP his budget is 5-8000 Rps and the Raheem Residency falls within that budget. In the context of the Oberoi (since you mention it)a similar room would cost him 25-30000 Rps ! So, in a choice between the RR and Oberoi, the RR would indeed be the budget option ......

It's not subjective when it's used to categorize the Grading / Pricing of Accommodation, Steve, not sure why you are mixing this up with the travelers personal budget. I used the Oberoi scenario according to your logic of how the term Budget Hotel is seen by you. Your above logic in Post #17 may apply to the the wealthy / extremely rich BUT to the average traveler the words Budget Hotel means "Low Cost"

When the word Budget is used in the accommodation world, it means "Low Cost" to the average traveller, a travellers Personal Budget has got nothing to do with the Grading of Hotels.

No different that when the term is used in the Airline Industry, " Budget Airline" which means Low Cost carrier.

OK Paul, you are now talking about 'the average traveller' and his concept of what constitutes budget/low cost. I repeat, the term budget is subjective, one persons low cost is another persons expensive is another persons average, you cannot quantify a term like budget. Or perhaps in your case you can, so please do and tell us in definitive monetary terms .....what is the average travellers budget ?
Indeed, perhaps you could also quantify the term 'average traveller' am I an average traveller ? Are you an average traveller ? Is the OP an average traveller? is Lifesupport an average traveller ? Because I'm pretty sure we will all have our own ideas as what would constitute an average budget for ourselves !!
