Hi
I'm getting a horrible time flight out of Bangalore - so it's leaving at 6am which means I;ll have to get there for 3am or before. Are there retiring rooms at the airport? Or a decent cafe etc? Or should I just cut my losses and get a hotel on MG road?
THanks
C

don't know but hotel ajantha on mg road near trinity circle is a very reasonable place to stay. and getting to the ariport from there takes about 30 minutes.

I know about the 'old' Bangalore airport. I don't know if the new one is up and running yet.
The old one has little to offer. Nowhere comfortable to sit and no decent cafe. No retiring rooms. It's a scrum.

AVOID airport like the plague. Barely a cafe and certainly not open at that time. Retiring rooms...haha!
Still the old one, on its last legs. New one not ready yet.

THanks guys
Looks like its MG road for me. Ballal residency looks nice (i fancy the luxury!). Is it OK to get a taxi from the hotel?? Is that the safest way of doing it?C

I've been to Bangalore in December 06 and to be honest, I don't remember all the details, but the airport was totally ok (I'm talking about the international departure). I got there around midnight and my flight was at around 3 am. There’s a nice coffee takeaway just outside of the airport (international departure) and the same brand is actually inside the airport too, and they sell sandwiches and cakes. There are decent seats in the waiting area and even a 24h doctor for free (I was ill then and was very happy to be able to go and see a doctor). The airport was rather quiet and I thought that everything was fine.
Taxis from town (MG Road) to the airport aren't too expensive, I had one organised by my hotel, don't know about public transport.

At the moment it looks like the new Bangalore airport (at Devanahalli, about 30km Nth of the city) will be up and running on 11 May, '08.

Anyone got any clues regarding nearby budget accommodation (ceiling fan, no private bathroom, reasonably clean, no TV) ?
... or, details of an airport shuttle service or train (there is a train line running through Devanahalli to Bangalore) ? and perhaps details of accommodation near where they arrive in the city?
Cheers and happy travelling.
