Hi all, I am planning my first trip to India in Nov/Dec. We have 3 weeks in Rajasthan which isn’t as long as I would like but it is all I can manage for this trip. I’m hoping to get some feedback on my plans so far. I want to make sure I am making the best use of my time.
There are 3 of us travelling, I usually like to take my time travelling so I can have a good look around each place without rushing it too much. We are very much into history, architecture, food. We love to get out and about on foot to look around.
We have travelled extensively in SE Asia, apart from Sri Lanka this is our first trip to South Asia.
All travel below is by train unless otherwise stated. I am finding it tricky to work out train schedules.
All suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Day 1 arrive in Delhi late at night
Day 2 travel to Jaipur
Day 3 Jaipur
Day 4 Jaipur to Pushkar via Ajamer
Day 5Pushkar
Day 6 Jodhpur via Alamer
Day 7 Jodhpur
Day 8 Jodhpur
Day 9 travel to Udaipur possibly with a taxi so we can stop at Ranakpur & Kumbhalgarh
Day 10 Udaipur
Day 11 Udaipur
Day 12 Bus to Bundi
Day 13 Bundi
Day 14 Bundi
Day 15 travel to Ranthambhorne NP via Sawai Madhopur. Safari in the pm
Day 16 safari am & the afternoon train to Agra
Day 17 Agra
Day 18 Agra afternoon train to Delhi
Day 19 Delhi
Day 20 Delhi
Day 21 fly home

Download the phone app "railjankari". I use that all the time to browse train schedules. There's a lot of similar apps, but that one has the cleanest interface IMO.

That's a pretty common itinerary. I highly recommend the government bus on the route from Jodhpur to Udaipur, via Kumbhalghar. The bus is not the most comfortable, but you meet the nicest people and pass through some great small villages.

I would skip Pushkar, go directly to Jaisalmer instead. Shorten your visit to Jodhpur, and skip Bundi.

You'll just miss Diwali. Find out what local festivals are taking place, and you might want to reschedule your itinerary so you can attend.

For the moment, it will be easier to use erail to check schedules. https://erail.in/

But - if you plan to book the trains yourself then sooner rather than later, you'll need an account on the IRCTC.
https://www.irctc.co.in/nget/ Since that's where you book the tickets, it's also where you check the schedules.

Uh-huh.

Day 1 arrive in Delhi late at night Day 2 travel to Jaipur

So, for the sake of efficient use of daylight hours, why not fly to Jaipur? There will be flights around 06:00 and 07:00 - I don't know why you'd leave the airport / airport precinct.

Day 3 Jaipur

If you really are into "history, architecture, food" you need to add three days to Jaipur.

Day 4 Jaipur to Pushkar via Ajamer Day 5Pushkar Day 6 Jodhpur via Alamer

Nyet to Pushkar and Ajmer.

Day 14 Bundi Day 15 travel to Ranthambhorne NP via Sawai Madhopur. Safari in the pm Day 16 safari am & the afternoon train to Agra

This is obviously where you are lacking the train schedules as that plan is not practicable in any real way:

https://erail.in/trains-between-stations/bundi-BUDI/sawai-madhopur-SWM

https://erail.in/trains-between-stations/sawai-madhopur-SWM/agra-cantt-AGC

For an easy life you need to book the safaris in advance, and through your accommodation provider.

Day 17 Agra

Make sure this is not a Friday.

There are usually 3 ways to shape any Indian itinerary - logistics and money are usually the determing factors. Without doing all the research on schedules:

Delhi - Bundi - Udaipur - (via Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur) to Jodhpur - Jaipur - Ranthambore - Agra - Delhi

Looks pretty reasonable to me, If there is more than one of you I'd just hire a car & Driver around 2000 Rupee per day, and then you have all the freedom in the world :)

You are giving more time to Jodhpur and Bundi and less to Jaipur. If you rearrange it then you may easily add few more places to your itinerary.
Hiring a car would be an easier option with all comfort for the 3 people traveling together. It will help you get away with all logistics and city travels.
Regards
