Hello again,
We have 8 days in Himachal Pradesh -- are planning to arrive in Shimla in early June. What would be a great itinerary in and around the hill stations? We need to be back in Delhi 9 days after we arrive in Shimla.
Many thanks!

Hi
In 8 days - you can spend Shimla - 2 nights, Manali - 3 nights and than head to Dharamsala for 2 to 3 nights and travel to Delhi by night train from Pathankot which is around 4 hours bus ride from Dharamsala.
happy traveling

Hi....
To supplement the schedule suggested by tinoo, I would suggest you to consider visiting Rohatang Pass, weather permitting, which is a day trip from Manali. Also visit Dalhousie - a hill station on your way from Dharamsala to Pathankot.
Happy Journey,

Avoid dharamsala in june! seriously, don't bother. you will not see anything but cloud and rain and thats the truth, i was there for a week june 1st - june 7th last year and it was damp, cloudy and pretty depressing really, the view is incredible, i saw it for about twenty minutes once when i got up at 6am to get the bus to leave, by 7am when i was looking back at dharamsala it was already covered in cloud.
I would say if you want to see views (anything) you should go from shimla - sarahan - sangla valley (with time) - kalpa - pin valley (with time) - kaza - manali.
These places (spiti valley) aren't affected by the monsoon and are also very beautiful. it takes a little bit more planning than a simple manali - dalhousie - dharamshala trip, but it would be incomprably better and you get to see something other than cloud.
I should recommend you to go to Kalpa and Sangla, Chitkul. That's not too far away from Shimla. Of course, the full Kinnaur Spiti circuit is fantastic, but in 8 days ?

yeah, you can't do the full kinnaur-spiti circuit in 8 days! sarahan-kalpa would be lovely, but even that in 8 days... i mean, you'd be traevlling by bus 4 days out of the 8. i would either do just sarahan or direct to kalpa from shimla. sarahan is less travel, but kalpa is much more spectacular.

yeah you're right... kinnaur spiti is definitely do-able in days, but it would probably be better to enjoy kinnaur at a more leisurely pace.

how long should i leave to travel up himchal pradesh up to leh and where do you think i should stop?

It all depends on how long you want to spend there, you could travel around himachal for months, and plenty of people do.
The trip from manali - leh takes two days, and delhi to manali is a bit less than a day, so minimum 3 days, maximum 3 months, there are plenty of beautiful places in himachal, but if its monsoon you could give yourself 2-3 weeks for kinnaur/pin valley/spiti. Then go kaza - keylong - leh, which isn't too complicated, a travel agent in kaza should be able to arrange it for you.
