Why police escort?
Hello,
does anyone know why do you still need a police escort at the lake around Rangamati?
We had to have one on the boat on the lake even. Did not get it. Visited the tribal villages but felt really bad with the police around.
The peace has been there since 97 in this region no? We had that feeling that the police is used just so tourists tip the police and for intimidation of the tribal people. Does anyone know more about it?
Around Bandarban we were able to trek without police escort, met a guy who took us around the police checks, otherwise looks like you need one there too...

It is supposedly for your 'own safety'! Of late, there haven't been been any reported incidents...but you never know, when or how you might get lost and end up somewhere bizarre like Hansel and Gratel!
