Hi everyone,

Just in the early stages of planning out a trip to India and decided after some research to visit Bagladesh.

However, I have just about fallen off my seat at the cost of the visa! $150 according to the bangaldesh consulate in canberra! I'm a little confused as to how/why the visa would be so expensive for a country that costs so little to visit.

I would still really like to go, but am finding it hard to justify given I was only planning on visiting for 3 weeks prior to heading to India.

Any advice/comments would be appreciated....! I would be flying in from Malaysia then taking the train/bus to Kolkutta.

Thanks

Jess

Hi Jess, i am also surprised to see the recent visa fee. As far as i can remember, earlier the visa fee was usd 35.

May be Bangladesh need not foreign tourists !

They need their money up front because it is otherwise so cheap as opposed to Bhutan. I suppose its just a way of discouraging tourism assuming any thought has gone into it. If you have obtained an Indian visa before arriving in Bangladesh you could go for the 15 day landing permit at the airport which is much less. Its less time in BD but less money..

50 US dollars for the landing permit.

Hiya, I travelled through Bangla for a month in Sept09 & also had to pay the visa fee... perhaps the $50 VOA is the best option, depends on what you want to see there... you could probably see enough in 15 days. You could offset the exorbitant visa fees if you get a good deal on the flight from KL to Dhaka, my AirAsia flight was $30... Mahmud is probably right, they don't seem to like us Aussies visiting.

Well then ! If you still want to visit BD go for it ! Life is cheap in BD and that compensate the visa cost would you choose to take it from OZ !

Thanks for all your replies...maybe the landing permit is the best option....can you definitely get a visa on arrival if you fly into Dhaka? And for any nationality? My partner is also travelling but on a british passport.....

Thanks in advance!

The only nation I know of that are not permitted to get visas are israeli's.

Can't comprehend why the huge increase in visa fees. At a guess, it's because B/desh is now being seen as a tourist location worth visiting and the government know that there's hard currency coming in from tourists.

Cheers

Remember, with the landing permit you need to have prior Indian visas because the Indian staff in BD look askance at landing permits for some reason..

Jess

Your partner on a British passport can get 15 days VOA. Im from the UK and last month got VOA, 50 usd and only 5 minutes to get it. I met some Australians there who got VOA.
