seems like there is no way to travel independently through Turkmenistan even after getting the visa. So at the moment im trying to negotiate with a tour operator for a 3 days tour from iran to Uzbekistan via Ashgabat and darvaza. Was quoted 640$.
If anyone has already had any experience with tour companies there, do you think its a good price? Any tour operator that you can suggest me?

Hey. I did a proper search and couldn't find anything about these things. Does GPS work properly in common routes? I'm thinking about downloading portions of the map from Google Maps but I would like to download some trail maps too. Do you have any recommendations? I would rather have it be English because I don't know the Cyrillic alphabet. Thank you so much.
So this is an idea that I've had for a while: driving from Western Europe to India. I did the trans-siberian train journey a couple years ago, and the experience was incredible, but I'd love to travel through the middle east this time, either by car or train. I have heard that it is very difficult to get visas and find remotely safe routes, but I was wondering if anyone had done anything like this. This trip was probably easier just a few years ago, but I'd love to hear about anyone's journey…

I am considering the following itinerary and would welcome any comments on whether I have sufficient time to include a few days in the Fann region at the end.
