I'm planning to travel Torugart Pass from Kashgar with my father on 27th or 30th October.

I plan to do some trekks at the end of september and in october by myself. I don't want to be in the cities and I hope I spent most of the time in mountains. And here is the question:
Is it safe to stay alone in mountains in my tent?? I mean only thing I'm afraid of are other people.

I'm going to Baikonur next week, however the agency I asked to arrange the permission had failed and I haven't recieved it. Has anyone tried to get there without having the pass illegaly? Is it possible to bribe someone there to get into the city?
Do you know any accomodation in Tyuratam or Akay in case we won't be able to enter Baikonur?
I went to the Turkmenistan embassy in Tashkent, Uzbekistan recently. They told me they will issue transit visas only with an entry date from 1st October onwards. So no more transit visas for September. I do not know the situation if you apply in another embassy or want a tourist visa.
It's being reported that foreign exchange in Uzbekistan is being liberalised to allow the "real" market rate to be used officially (rather than only on the black market):
Uzbekistan to let citizens, companies buy FX from Sept. 5
If this follows through, it's likely to mean the end of changing money on the black market (or at least vastly reduce the need for it).
It'd be interesting to know the experiences of people currently travelling in Uzbekistan to see what changes in practice.

I wil be on a guided tour of Turkmenistan, 1 night in Ashgabat, 1 night by the crater then off to the border following day, what would be a reasonable amount of US dollars to change up, don't want to be left with lots of manat that I can't get rid of.
Can I exchange manat at the border with Uzbekistan?
