There's a post over on neweurasia that the Kyrgyz authorities are planning on restricting access to Bishkek during the forthcoming SCO Summit (6-19 August). There's not a great deal of details available in English, though the restrictions were mentioned in RFE/RL's July 17 Transcaucasia and Central Asia newsline (scroll down, report is fourth from bottom).

>Good ol' BBC News< informs us of Berdymukhayaddayaddaetcetc's decision to turn Turkmenbasi into a tourist attraction, that's the town not the corpse by the way.
When I was there a couple of months ago there were a couple of new hotels further up the beach but it seems there are much greater plans afoot.
In other news of potentialy huge importance, it mentions that there are plans to relax visa restrictions. Hopefully getting rid of that ridiculous pre-booked tour malarkey.

Hi all,
I will be in Uz for 2/3 weeks and I'm combining my journey with a journalistic reportage about women in Uzbekistan. I know it won't be easy to speak English with local people, but maybe any of you can suggest me associations, universities or people to whom I can speak and get some help about this topic. I'm interested in knowing a little bit more about them...social issues, work, etc.
I will visit the main cities (tashkent, samarkand, bukhara, maybe khiva), maybe there's someone there who…

Does anyone know where I can get hold of a Lonely Planet Russia in Tashkent. Is there any good bookshops where I might be able to get one?
Failing that, can I get hold of one in Moscow?

Hi
I am getting a new part for my car air freighted to Taskhent Airport. I need an address for the weighbill (it will not be delivered to this address). Can anyone help me with an address?
Will I need proof of this address whn I collect the item?
Would a hotel registration slip suffice as proof of address?
Does anyone know any ways around this?
Thanks, help appreciated.
Daniel
