Does anyone know how it is at the moment to hitch, without Tibet permits, from Ali to Kashgar? It is a trip I would like to make including the return journey in the next month or so.

One more question (after having received so many answers to my previous one re Termiz): Is there a chance to make a day trip from Usbekistan (Khiva) to Konye Urgench in Turkmenistan with only a UZ several entry visum, but no Turkmen visa - can the latter be bought at the customs? Has any of you this recently?

I am looking for travel partners to share expenses of a hired 4WD + driver to travel Pamir Highway from Khorog to Osh departing in late August 2007.

I am a 39 yr old Cdn male travelling solo looking to travel the Pamir Highway from Khorog to Osh starting approximately Aug 30 to exit Sept 3 into Kyrgyzstan (visa ends). Should I be able to extend Tajik visa, I could make trip longer, allowing for more sidetrips.
