Talas Area

Hello

Does anybody know the Talas Area. My biggest problem is how to get there. I'm in Osh at the moment. I thought about taking a Bishkek Bus/taxi and get out at Oetmek and try to hich from there. Does anybody know wheter this is possible? Can I sleep somewhere around Oetmek (I do have a tent...). Or is it better to go to Bishkek and take a bus from there? Is there a bus from bishkek that does not cross into Kazakhstan (I have no Kazak visa)?

How can I get around once I am in Talas? Do I allways…

Hey there,

My brother is due to come visit me (he's in Tibet now) and I think the most logical place for him to get an Afgan visa would be in Delhi.
Any news about the embassy?
What does he need for the visa?
LOI?
How long does it take?
Costs?

Thanks, and thanks for traveling,
Fox-

My partner and I are looking to travel from Australia to Korea (15-18 September) and then on to Almaty. We then plan to travel around Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan (so need a multi-entry Kazakh visa). We had a letter of invitation lined up, but unfortunately it looks like it might be about to fall through.

In the event that the LOI does fall through, does anyone know of a way we can get a multi-entry Kazakh visa before 15 September?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Joel

I have just returned from Tajikistan after my fifth visit and thought I ought to warn folks to be very careful to get their OVIR registrations in order. I think that prior to this year OVIR registration was only necessary and indeed possible if you were visiting either Khojand or Dushanbe. I never did it on my previous visits to Istravshan & Panjakent. Now you must register with the local police if you stay more than 72 hours in any town.

This year I crossed the Uz/Taj border at Panjakent and…

Hello everyone -
Currently I'm planning a trip in the spring to Uzbekistan, Kazahkstan, Kyrgyzstan, and maybe Tajikistan, if I can make it. However, as I am a 20 year old woman planning to travel alone, my friends and family are up in arms about me being kidnapped or caught in drug crime or something equally horrifying. So I turn to you, o wise Thorn Tree readers, for your advice:
1. What are my concerns in this region as a solo female traveller?
2. What are my concerns in this region as any sort…

Hi guys/gals,

I just got back from a month of trekking in Kyrgyzstan and thought it was a very interesting place. My favorite place for trekking still remains Nepal, as I think the people there are just special and I have yet to find the friendliness and warmness of Nepal in other countries.....however, it was still an interesting journey, just don't expect the same kind of warm, customer service in Kyrgyzstan that you find in other countries.

I actually flew into Alamaty, Kaz and then drove over…

I`m planning to go to uzbekistan in late october and want to go to Bishkek in mid november. I read about a bus or a minivan between Tashkent and Bishkek - which is the best (and cheapest) way to go? Is it possible to avoid kazachstan in this time of the year?

Thank you for your help!
