Hi folks

I am planning to travel overland through Central Asia and I am wondering if when getting visas at cosulates/embassies they actually ask you for proof of onward travelling/hotel bookings and similar staff. I am in the know about LOIs and how to get them, my only doubt now are those requirements.

In all official websites they are stated... but im my previous trip overlanding to China via Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, China I was never asked for such things in the end.

Currently working in Bishkek. Found cheap flights to Tashkent over Xmas and New Year. Was thinking of a cheeky trip to Mazar-i-Sharif.

I found some information about Uzbek transit visas online but nothing concrete. I would need a double entry. Does this mean 2x transit visas? How much are they and do I need an LOI?

Also if anyone has anything bookmarked on the border corssing to Afghan that would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, there are major renovations happening in shahrisabz at the moment. The town is a construction zone. I would still highly recommend going though so you can see it before they make some major changes so that it will be "better than Samarkand" as one local put it. However we could not find any accommodation. Lonely planet's guidebook's two listings seem to be demolished. They may have relocated but a worker at the shahrihabz hotel said there are no other hotels and that their own hotel is…

My basic question: what is the best way to organize an independent trip. I've looked into…

For anyone considering or planning a trip to Uzbekistan, I invite you to read about my recent month-long trip there. It focuses more on life, culture, and personal experiences rather than purely travel logistics, but it may prove to be insightful for anyone curious about this fascinating nation: http://writteninwanderlust.blogspot.com/

Hey everyone,

When you enjoy your trip to Uzbekistan, and there are lots of enjoy from (I was already planning to come back to visit other places we did not have the time to) - pay attention:
We enetred Uzbekistan from Osh. I filled the custom form in 2 copies, and the officer did not hand me back one of the copies. My friends got their copy. I realized it when we left the border and I came back to the guard and asked to return to the custom room to get my form back. He insisted it's impossible…
