I am planning to travel overland through Central Asia and I am wondering if when getting visas at cosulates/embassies they actually ask you for proof of onward travelling/hotel bookings and similar staff. I am in the know about LOIs and how to get them, my only doubt now are those requirements.
In all official websites they are stated... but im my previous trip overlanding to China via Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, China I was never asked for such things in the end.

I found some information about Uzbek transit visas online but nothing concrete. I would need a double entry. Does this mean 2x transit visas? How much are they and do I need an LOI?

Hi, there are major renovations happening in shahrisabz at the moment. The town is a construction zone. I would still highly recommend going though so you can see it before they make some major changes so that it will be "better than Samarkand" as one local put it. However we could not find any accommodation. Lonely planet's guidebook's two listings seem to be demolished. We want to travel in the "five" Stans - Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan independently. By that I mean we do not want to join an organized tour but would be open to joining a small group for day trips.
