Hi,

We are planning a trip to Uzbekistan in February, and our itinerary involves going from Bukhara to Khiva, in which most people do it by car.
How is the condition of the road in winter time, in terms of snow? My understanding is that some parts of the roads are still under constructions but we wanted to know if the winter weather conditions could affect the journey.

Thank you for your help!
Anna

Hey,
we are planning to visit Uzbekistan next May or June.
Has anybody been to the city of Boysun and the surronding. I read it`s famous for the traditional live and also the nature.
And we are also thinking about a visit to the Nuratau Reserve north of Samarkand for hiking and stay at local homes.
How has been there? How to get there?
Are this places worth a visit?

Thanks for feedback
Ben

Hi,
I'm planning a week of travel to Uzbekistan. My flight should depart from Tashkent at 6:30 and I've read that it is needed to arrive 3 hours prior the departure for international flights (this means at 3:30).
Is it worth to sleeping in terminal arriving in the late evening? Paying a room in Tashkent for few hours during the night seems useless.

Thanks

Black Market

Hi,
I'm confused about changing money in Uzbekistan. I will be bring US dollars. I've read plenty about the black market but also about border officials checking your receipts for money changed etc.
Can someone tell me if it is ok to change money on the black market or must we use banks?
Thanks

Visa

Hello everyone,

I am planning a Central Asian backpacking trip as part of my gap year. I've got most issues sorted out because it seems that visa requirements for Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan are very light for UK citizens; the Tajik visa doesn't seem to be too much of a bother either.
However, I'm a bit worried about the Uzbek one. I have read stories of people waiting three weeks in Bishkek for their visa to process, while the Tajik one took half an hour. Bishkek is the place where I'd like to…

Dear all,

According to this site : http://eurasia.travel/uzbekistan/cities/termiz/
"There is some confusion over whether you need a permit from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to visit Termez and Surkhandarya, it's worth checking with an agency"

Does any of you have recent informations about that ? What seems to be clear is that some sites require a special permit, issues by "UZBEKTOURISM" (exemple : Kara-Tepe). But according to this site : http://www.afs-research.com/index.php/en/analitika-2/…

Hi Everyone,

I have a tourist visa for Uzbekistan, but I noticed that my middle name is spelled with one letter off. I don't know if I made the mistake or they did. I called the embassy and they said it wouldn't matter, that the passport number is the important thing. Still I've always heard that Uzbek officials are sticklers for detail. Should I be worried about this, and what, if anything, can I do?

Thanks.

I am a Canadian citizen hoping to visit Uzbekistan this year. Do I need a Letter of Invitation to get a visa? The Lonely Planet book says on page 138 it says Canadians are exempt. On page 225 it says we do need a Letter of Invitation..
"Uzbek visa rules depend entirely on the state of Uzbekistan's relation with your county's government. At the time of writing, citizens of the following countries were exempt from Letters of Invitation: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain…

I know most people in Uzbekistan will speak Russian. Is it good form to launch directly into Russian or would that be deemed rude? Should I first ask "do you speak Russian" in Uzbek? Will most signs (on storefronts, etc) be in Uzbek or Russian?
