I've just been talking to a Travel Company who is processing my LOI.

I am Australian, and there is no Embassy here, so I had originally planned to use a Visa Agency and get the Visa in London. But this would take a minimum of 1 month, and the problem here is that we leave in 2 months and I still have not received the LOI even though we applied 4 weeks ago.

The problem seems to be that the Uzbek MFA has stopped processing LOIs while preparing for some SCO summit in Tashkent, and they still have…

Quick question

I'm looking at a flight to Tashkent that lands at half past three in the morning. How difficult would it be to find a taxi and check in to a hotel at that time?

Cheers.

Hi everyone,
I would like to spent 3 weeks in Uzbekistan in August 2010. I am a woman and would like to travel around on my own, travelling by shared taxi, bus and train, staying in small hotels or guest houses in Tashkent, Samarkand, Buchara and Khiva. I have travelled alone in many countries but have now idea as to how it would be in Uzbekistan ? Any tips from other solo women travellers would be highly appreciated.
I have read that I can get the visa easily through the Uzbek Embassy in…

We are visiting Kazakhstan as tourists later this month and are planning to cross into Uzbekistan thereafter.

There are mixed reports at the moment as to whether the Chernayevka border crossing is open to British passport holders; there is some suggestion that it is necessary for non-Kazakhs to travel to the Yallama border crossing instead.

According to the British embassy in Tashkent, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised there are two border posts, Yallama and Beshkuprik, available for…

I'm going to Uzbekistan soon for 9 days and since I'm into distance running, I wondered if anyone can tell me, what people might think if they see someone running (wearing shorts and a shirt without sleeves) in a public park (at least that's the plan once the sun has gone down).

I have run in a number of countries when travelling, and while for instance in Mali people thought that was incredibly funny, in Ethiopia (a country where the best elite runners come from) people didn't seem to be too…

Hi Everyone:

I'll be in Uzbekistan for 12 full days from 2 - 13 July and wanted to hear from everyone:

  1. How many days to spend in each Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva?
  2. Any great hotels to stay in ,especially boutique hotels?
  3. Favorite-not-to-miss things to do while in country, whether touristy or off-the-beaten-path.

Many thanks!

I went to the consulate today. I had filled in (in pen) two downloaded application forms, as the consulate website instructs. They took these and the photos (but not my passport), and told me I also had to register for a visa online: evisa.mfa.uz

They confirmed you don't need a LOI, and also said processing a visa would "normally" take a week (5 working days).

I did the online visa, which tells you to print out a copy of the application and take it to the embassy. Now the questions start.

Hi again,

I need to get to Kokand when I arrive at Tashkent. I heard several means of transport available in Uzbekistan, namely, shared taxi and Marshrutka.

  1. Where, in Tashkent, can I get on each of mode of transport? I heard the Marshrutka bus stand is located at Sabir Rahim Metro, but cannot find this metro station! By the same token, for shared taxi, I was told to go to Qo'yliq Vodiy stoyanka (Qo'yliq Fergana Valley taxi stand), but cannot find it on Google Map...
  2. Do you recommend…
