America?

I have just come back from a 10-days holiday in Uzbekiston and would like to ask the following:
When I went to a market to buy things or a restaurant or generally made an enquiry somewhere, when people noticed that I did neither speak Uzbek nor Russian, the first thing they asked was 'America?'.

Now during my time in Uzbekiston, I met a few people from Germany, heard even more Gemans, as well as lots of Dutch and Italians, and other Europeans as well. So with so many Europeans in Uz, and…

Could anyone tell me if B&B's in Bukhara are considered "official hotels", i.e., are they able to provide customs documentation at the end of your stay, or do you have to take other measures to cover for the time you spend there?

LOI payment

Hı All,

I try to get LOI from Stantour. However, they have two payment options; one is in one of their office in Central asia and the other one is by bank transfer.
The first option is out for me because I can not go to their office.
Second option seems very expensive. LOI free is $35US but bank charges about $35 for each bank to bank transfer. I also heard that the receiving bank will charge some amount (about $15).

Do any one has experience with the bank transfer and how much does it cost?
Is…

I picked up a Uzbekistan visa this week from the Uzbek embassy in Abu Dhabi. The whole process took less than an hour (waiting in line took 45 minutes) with a letter of invite, a completed application (go here http://evisa.mfa.uz/ to fill it in beforehand), one photo, one photocopy of your passport details and 315 UAE Dirhams for a 30-day single-entry visa (Canadian passport). Their website is very informative and located here: http://www.uzbekembassy.net/

The location of the embassy is in Al…

Two Americans, applying to Uzbek visa through a travel agency while living in Armenia where there is no embassy.
If we get a number can we expect to be able to pick up our visas in Tehran without a wait as we will have to have an Iranian tour guide in our pay daily?
Does anyone have experience with the Uzbek Embassy in Tehran?
Thanks

I have applied for a LOI from Stantours, and have been told that due to the SCO Summit in Tashkent, Uzbek MFA has put a hold to application processing for July onwards.

This is really annoying and affects my plans, and they have told me they have no idea when the MFA will lift this restriction.

Does anyone know what is happening, and why they would just decide to stop processing tourist applications? Can I really hope that they will start again anytime soon?

Hi. I'll be in Tashkent for a couple of days in August. Do you guys have any recommendations for:

  1. inexpensive but good food (that hopefully will not make me sick) that are not in the LP? Any kind of food - I am open to try it. I believe I am staying near Amir Timur Square, but of course willing to travel...

  2. places to get a cup of coffee to feed my addiction (the LP said there was a place in the Mir food court, is it still there?)

  3. can we take photos of subway…
