Hello, there's seems to be a lot of contradiction on about if we really need the letter of invitation ( LOI) upon arrival at the airport in Tashkent international, can somebody clarify this for me, somebody who just did the trip not to long ago, and how much is the visa upon arrival for 30 days with 3 entry's, also do we need to pay in cash. Thank you everybody,, btw I am travelling with a Canadian passport.

This depends if you pre-arrange a visa or not. IF you pre-arrange an Uzbek visa, an LOI may or may not be needed.
If you want to arrange for a visa-on-arrival at Tashkent airport, you need an LOI. I would suggest going through Stantours, but make sure to specify that you need the LOI to be airport-arrival specific!
For visa on arrival, you will definitely need LOI, regardless nationality. But this is really specific - Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan approves LOI for Tashkent Airport:
- if there is no Uzbekistan Embassy or Consulate in the country from where tourist is flying to Uzbekistan.
- if in the country, where Uzbekistan Embassy or Consulate exists, but connecting flight doesn’t allow enough time to obtain a visa.
For this, local travel agency needs to have a copy of flight ticket in addition to other documents for visa support.
As for fees, they depend on nationality and period of stay, plus 10 USD for each additional entry. So if, for example, your visa fee is 100 USD, add 20 USD for 2 extra entries. Cash only, USD.
Refer to http://mfa.uz page for detailed info on fees.
I work in a travel agency, so deal with LOIs every day, including visa-on-arrival.
Ok, what about if I arrive on a land border do I also need a LOI? Also how quick can u provide me with a letter of LOI and how much ? In canada there's no embassy or consular services for uzb. I should be landing in bishek around the 15 oct. And make my way to Tashkent . Thank you
Yes, you still need LOI. Only citizens of some European countries, Malaysia and Japan can get Uzbek tourist visa without LOI, but in case they apply in their countries of origin. If you enter Uzbekistan overland, you can collect visa in the US (which is usual for Canadian citizens), or in Bishkek, for example. The procedure of LOI issuance takes 7 days. Please note that sometimes collecting visa in Uzbek embassies can also take time. Some tourists report they obtained visa in 10 minutes, some - the next day. For Bishkek, it is needed to make an appointment at the Embassy, but again, some tourists reported they've just come and collected the visa. So it depends.
Summation: On a Canadian passport, you can only get a VOA at airports, not land borders. You must get your LOI in advance and show that at the airport. (Stantours has always had good recommendations here).
If you want to enter by land you must have a visa already (no LOI). You will have to send your documents, fee and paperwork to the Uz. consulate in the U.S. to obtain the visa if you want it before starting your travels. Refer to the U.S. Uzbek Consulate website.
