In order to obtain a Visa for Uzbekistan and Tajikistan visa you need a letter of invitation. Is this true? Whats the easiest way to get one as an independent traveler? And how long does it usually take?

it all depends on which embassy you are applying at. i (a us citizen) obtained my visa w/o a LOI at the embassy in almaty. there was a very recent post on this thread about us citizens applying back in the us possibly not needing a LOI. search old posts. if you do find out you need one, there are a few online agencies that can organize this for you. stantours.com is the old standby. i believe it takes around 5-10 days depending on how much you pay.
