Hi
I`m German passport holder and living in Bavaria.
Has anybody applied also visa in Berlin during the last weeks. How long does it take to get the passport back?

And I have questions regardings the application form that may sounds simple but in fact I don`t know how to deal with:

They ask about "Inviting party", but I dont have. What did you fill in?
They also aks about the occupation where you can choose from a list of 16 but non of them is what most of us do. Otherwise it
s not possible to typ in directly?

Now I`m very curious how you guys did it :-)

Ben

I don't know about the embassy in Berlin, but we have applied for our visas in London last month and it took 10 days (the website says there is an "express service" but they didn't really have one). We applied directly at the consulate and not by post.

I think if you are a German citizen you don't need any letter of invitation (which is referring to the "Inviting party") so we just put "not applicable" on our applications.

Regarding the occupation, if you work for a private company (which I think is the most case) just choose the option "Representatives of business groups and persons, engaging in individual enterprise".

I hope this helps!

Since more than ten years now most of Westerners don't need any LOI or Inviting party.
Don't stress, you will receive your visa.

We applied last september, so not really during the last weeks. At that time it took 2 weeks plus time for sending passports to and from the embassy. No need for LOI for Germans. I don't remember what we wrote for occupation but I guess unless you are a journalist or human rights activist they don't really care.
In principle the consular section of the embassy can answer questions on the phone. The numbers are on their webpage. Last year their phones were just not working properly, so they said. It was hard to get through. When somebody took the call they were actually very helpful.

Have myself applied twice in Berlin, and know of a few others of different nationalities. They were all rather quick. Never more than 10 days processing time. Germans need no LOI.
