I am a UK citizen and will be applying for my LOI very soon before I leave the UK. I have decided to sort an LOI as, although I have been told that one is not USUALLY required, I would rather arrange one for the nominal $30 cost than the Tehran embassy request one without me having one.

I am applying through stantours and everything is ready to go apart from one thing. My employment. I am working for a temporary agency for the rest of the week, before I finish my job on Friday (only leave the UK on 01 July). First of all, how important is this field? For example, would stantours still provide me with an LOI if I said that I was unemployed? Would this be likely to present me with difficulties further down the line, for example when applying in Tehran?

If this is required, and I put my temporary employer down, and they contact them next monday for example, I will have left by then, and I am concerned my employer will correctly inform Stantours that I no longer work for them.

I am stuck here and not sure what approach to take. Any tips?

Hi Nwmackem,

I've just applied for an Uzbek LOI with the help of Stantours and they gave it to me after 10 days waiting time and without any problems. I'm completely sure that they will not call to check up if you still work or not, don't worry. There are just some stupid formalities, but they aren't that important. You've to get a document where your current boss states that you work in this moment, but there's no need to tell when you'll leave the work. Hopefully your boss is a cool guy!! :-)

Good luck!!!

Thanks for the reply!

Do they ask me to get this letter and email it to them? I'm not sure whether that will be a problem or not, as I have already handed my notice in, telling them I am leaving on Friday.

Hi again,

Yes, you've to prepare a document where you state that you currently are working and your boss have to sign it. If you explain your situation and the purpose of the document to your boss, there shouldn't be any problems to get the signature of him/her.

I sent the scanned document to Stantours and they accepted it.

Without this document you might have troubles to get the LOI.

Cheers

Hey guys,
Just got my Uzbek visa last week. I'm basically self employed. The post soviet bureaucrats are just filling forms, they really don't have time to check. At worst, just give them your friends phone, and have them say they're your boss.

No problems at all.

I had the same problem, but I was lucky in that I had enough time before I finished working to get the LOI and my visa issued. Nobody called my boss to check. The letter I had my boss sign (almost straight after I resigned) was pretty generic, think they just look for a signature and letterhead.

Otherwise I guess just speak to stantours. I found them pretty efficient and helpful, and had no probs getting a 30 day visa.

Tell them you're a lion tamer or an astronaut, nobody's going to check. Just don't write rebel leader or religious fanatic or reporter.

#4 and 6 are right.

I wrote my own letter of employment.

They don't check anything.

Don't worry.

I got my LOI through Stantours also. No problems there.

Good luck with your trip.

P.S. I didn't use a fancy letterhead or anything. Just made up a document in Word.
