Didn't know if this has been posted or not, but I thought I'd give some forewarning to prevent someone from getting into the same predicament as myself. I went to Tashkent International at the end of my trip with about 75 USD worth of Uzbek som, thinking I could just exchange it back before my flight. If you've been exchanging on the black market (aka, the bazaar) like everyone else and have not obtained a certificate from an official bank, you will NOT be able to exchange any of your som back at the airport exchange booth. To make matters worse, the few gift shops/duty free stores/cafes that exist in the departures terminal do NOT even accept Uzbek som!

Moral of the story: Exchange all your leftover som back at the bazaar or spend it all before going to the airport, lest you want a fat wad of useless currency as your final souvenir!

Hi ,

3 weeks ago i was in tashkent airport as well. You can use your som in Fried Chicken/fast food inside the gate (the location you wait before boarding the airplane ) and in small store (buy water, candy, etc). But spend 75 USD worth of som for it will be too much

So, if you are not sure about the money which you will spend, better to exchange them in official exchange offices, because in that case you will be able to exchange the money back, but you also have to inform them that maybe you would like to do this in a few days. Or another option to go to the bazaar and exchange the money back.
