For those planning a trip to Uz, it may be usueful to know that prices given in som in the LP are about half what you'll pay now. In other words, double them.

Many GH will change US$ at 2000 som. In the markets you will get 2100 - 2200, but you either have to (a) trust the guy completely, or (b) carefully count perhaps a hundred banknotes in public while doing something technically illegal!

Do you recommend to change Euros to US$ before arriving at Uz?

When looking at the "official" change 1 Euro = 1980 UZS and 1 US$ = 1605 UZS.

From your post it seems wiser to change money at guesthouses, even if the change isn't the very best. (I guess that the change at GH also might be considered "black" market...)
