Hi,

Is it possible to make International Internet phone calls as SKYPE from Uzbek Internet cafés? Do they normally have headsets?

Thanks!

Regards

There are definitely places here with headsets (almost all of these internet cafes cater to the gaming crowd) but you might have to look around a bit for Skype or see if you can install it yourself.

I can confirm that headsets come pretty much as standard in most internet cafes that cater for the gaming and traveller crowds but can't comment on Skype as I'm not sure about that.

I had some difficulty logging onto Skype from internet cafes but when I used my own netbook over a wifi network in the hotel I had no problems. So I guess I was just unlucky in the machines I tried in the cafes. I did however notice that the BBC website is blocked in Uzbekistan.

Hi All,

Thanks for your answers!

What about prepaid phone cards and to use them in public phones?

Are there many public phones in Uzbekistan and is it cheap to call abroad?

I don't remember many public phones in the streets, sorry. However I'm sure we passed one or two net cafes that were holding themselves out to be VOIP-enabled - i.e. set up to allow voice calls to be made over the internet for a small fee.

Hi.

We have now returned from our 17-day trip and we found many Internet cafes with Skype and it worked fine (even if computers are VERY slow). We paid 600-1200 soms for 1 hour.

On the other hand public phones are hard to find.

Cheers
