Hi,
We are wanting to visit the Kumtepa Bazaar which is on a Sunday. I am trying to sort a workable itinerary!
I am looking at going from Samerkand to Fergana in one day - is this doable?
I am thinking of the train from Samerkand to Tashkent and then a shared taxi to Fergana?
Or is there a shared taxi directly from Samerkand?
Many thanks

For a shared taxi, you need to reach Tachkent first.
It's only if you use a contracted one that you can reach Fergana directly.

Thanks Michel.
Is a contracted taxi a possibility? Or possibly very expensive?
I guess I could organise this through a hotel or travel agency.
Do you think Samarkand to Fergana via Tashkent using train/shared taxi is doable or too much?
I appreciate your time.

No train to Fergana and the valley. You can only reach the capital city with it, from the Western part of the country.
From Samarkand, you have plenty of shared taxi to Tachkent. You need to change there and find a new one (shared) to the valley and/or the city (Valley of Fergana or city of Fergana)
You can use a mix of train to Samarkand and a taxi for Fergana OR a shared taxi to the capital city and a new one (also shared or even contracted) to Fergana OR a contracted from Samarkand to Fergana. The last one will not stop in Tachkent and could be the more quickest way of travel.

I did it in one day two years ago. At first taxi to Taschkent (he brought us to the place from there the taxis to Ferganavalley go). It was not soeasy to negotiate the price there, but at least it was ok. In Fergana I had problems with hotels because I havn't reserve anything and I had to chnge 3 hotels (and 4 rooms) in 4 days.

It's good to know that it is achievable in one day although I'm thinking it might be better to go back to Tashkent the night before and then set off for Fergana the next morning. And I'll book ahead - thanks for the tip!

I would recommend in Fergana the hotel "Taj Mahal".it situated in the center of the town and nice. (although the breakfast was not really mine:-)) Tel.(was 2 years ago): 224 45 25). Club Hotel 777 is very good too (wenn they havn't big groops from Europe), big rooms, nice garden, a little bit out of the center, but there many marshrutkas, the stop wcalled "Na krug(u)" (am circle). I didn't like "Ziyorat" (it was in the center too). Hope, it'll be helpfull.
