Hi folks! Soon we’ll be off to Central Asia. I have found lots of useful info here already but I still have one issue on which I hope TT travel experts could give some advice. We intend to cross to TJ at Sariosiyo-Tursanzade border crossing. It appears that the night train Samarkand-Denau + taxi to the border is a better option than trying to get to the border by a combination of shared taxis (Samarkand-Qarshi-Boysun/Termez-Denau?). Also, I read somewhere that the Sariosiyo-Tursanzade border closes at 5pm!? I would be glad for any useful info on this issue.
Plus, does somebody know whether it is possible to change the money somewhere on the border or close to it? (probably we would be at the border only on Saturday afternoon).
Thnx in advance! Cheers, Bostjan

Hi!

Did you manage to do this crossing from Samarkand to Dushanbe? I will have to go through it end of May… and still not sure which is the best option: either via Denau or going from Samarkand to Tashkent and going all the way down to Dushanbe. Was looking for info of the night train you mention but didn't find anything so far.

I would rather prefer to take the detour in Uzbekistan since the transport looks more efficient though more expensive as well. But prefer compromise cost rather than traveling time.

Thanks on advance for the info!.

The night train to Denau leaves Samarkand every second day at 2:40 in the morning and arrives at Denau at 13:18. More timetable details on http://www.bahn.de or http://www.uzrailpass.uz.
