Hi guys,

I We are planning to take a train from Tashkent to Samarkand. As I am searching for a guesthouse near the railway station, I found that there are South railway station, North railway station and Centra North railway station. Can anyone tell me which railway station is for Samarkand? Any recommendation for hotel/guesthouse near the railway station for Samarkand. Thanks

I took the Tashkent-Samarkand train but don't remember whether the specific name of the arrival station in Samarkand. When buying the ticket in Tashkent I simply said "Samarkand" and nobody ever asked "which station?" so I assumed there was only one.

I stayed at the Emir Hotel in Samarkand. It's a short taxi ride from the station (around 5 or 10 minutes, certainly no more than 10 minutes though). It's address is: 142, Ok Saroy Street, Samarkand. It's a small private family-run hotel, situated in the ancient Makhalla, close to Gur Emir, the world-famous family mausoleum of the Timurids. Nearby are the Rukhabad Mausoleum and Ak-Saray Palace and the other historical sites.

It's a big new station - no confusion possible. It's 5km from the monuments, and I didn't see any hotel nearby. (It's common in ex-USSR to have no hotels near the station - don't ask why.)

A taxi will be about 3000-4000 to the centre. Bus number 3 starts its journey from a bus station 100m in front of the station. It goes to Registan, and several LP mentioned hotels are nearby.

I also stayed at Emir hotel in Samarkand and would highly recomend it. In Tashkent I stayed at Hotel Grand Tashkent and it was brilliant. I walked from there to the train station. It was a long walk 1/2 to 1 hr but hated taxi's. A taxi to the station would only take 5 - 10 min. There is also a hotel at the station but I dont know anything about it, just that it is there. As far as I know the station is called Tashkent station, and there is only one.
