It's gone missing. Almost anywhere else in the world this would just be a nuisance, but here it's listed in my customs form, value $200.

Are they likely to ask me to produce the camera at the border when I leave? I'm planning Kokand-Khojand, but any info would be welcome.

Sorry to hear about your loss..When travelling to Uzbekistan I also listed my camera on the customs form but was never asked to show it or answer any questions about it when leaving the country.

If you have insurance coverage on it and are willing to claim the loss, then you'll need a police report. I don't know whether it's worth a hassle.

In my decays of travelling experience over 70 countries, I never bothered to declare a camera in the custom form, and was never checked its possession at exit of any country. In my opinion, Camera is like a toothbrush for the tourist.

I never declared my camera on entry ($80 cheapie anyway) and no one asked about it on the way out. In fact no one checked my currency and no one wanted my OVIR registration slips when I left in May from Tashkent airport.

Thanks all. The mad bureaucracy here tends to make me a bit paranoid!
