Hi

I tried to book a flight Tashkent-Urgench for Wed 8/8 but they're fully booked. I read that some travellers just showed up at the airport and managed to get a ticket for the same day. does anyone know whether this is likely to happen and it's worth trying (as the ailines might block some seats and then release them last minute or there might be cancellations), even though it is high season?

cheers

M

This has been a common trick for many years. Sure you can "BUY" a ticket but it will not be cheap.

Maybe try the train. The road between Khiva/Urgench and Bukhara is really bad and not made better by the new road next to it, that you can't drive on due to some reason.

This is probably too late for you marisogno but yes, we were able to go to Tashkent airport on the day we wanted to fly and purchase 2 tickets to Urgench. We asked at the ticket purchase counters if anyone spoke English and the counter person walked straight over to the 'terminal manager'. She came to speak with us and was friendly - at first she said, no this will not be possible, but then we explained that we'd spoken with someone at Uzbek Airways the day before. This airline representative told us that we might be able to purchase seats if there were no-shows. So the terminal manager listened to this and then said, if you wait until a half hour before the flight is due to depart, I'll update you. So after some nervous nail-biting, she walked over to us and gave us a little slip that must have said, sell these people 2 tickets, and I ran to the ticket counter with my dollars! Moment of euphoria!
