I'm planning a visit to Uzbekistan in August. The LOI seems pretty straight forward, and I'm dealing with Stantours for that, however the actual tourist visa application process is where I am becoming confused. As a Canadian, can I send my application to Washington DC, or does it have to be New York?

Reason being, when I go to the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in NYC site, for non-US citizens, it re-directs me to this dodgy looking Canadian visa service site which has outrageous fees and processing times. Surely this can't be right? I don't want to deal with some "visa service", I'll have my LOI from Stantours, and I just want to send my application with LOI to the consulate in the US.

Can any Canadians who have applied for an Uzbek visa confirm the process they went through?

Use Visa HQ to submit your application. They have a Canadian branch where you can set up everything... and then send your passport / documents to the Washington, DC, office for processing. They are reliable, fast, and reasonably priced. http://uzbekistan.visahq.ca/

Good luck.

I'm Australian and I sent mine to London. No problems.
I think technically the Singapore Embassy is where its meant to go....

I'd send it to the Embassy in Washington, rather than the consul-general. They are far more likely to deal with non US Visa applications.

If you are flying to UZ consider getting the visa at arrival at the airport if the price for a courier is too high. Your LOI should also cover Visa on arrival.

Anaya: I'm confused - does the LOI price cover visa fee (visa on arrival)? I'm sure, it does not.
Or you mean that the LOI (issued for visa to be obtained in the US) allows to obtain the visa in Tashkent airport? Again, not correct.
OP: Both New York and Washington are ok to send your passport and obtain the visa. 8 years in dealing with Uzbek visas are behind my shoulders. I'm sure.

Sorry, The fee from Stantour is for the LOI, not for the price of the actual visa. What I mean is that there is the possibility to pick up the visa at the airport in Tashkent on arrival.

You can with a LOI pick up a Visa from Tashkent airport, if you don't live in a country with an Uzbek embassy, or have been to a country recently for enough time to get an Uzbek visa.

Do not use VisaHQ if you hope to obtain a useable visa! I applied for an UZ visa and a double entry KG visa using VisaHQ earlier this year indicating that they should apply for the UZ visa first since and then only apply for the KG visa if there was enough time to return my passport by a certain date. The UZ visa took more time than the expected 10 working days but they applied for KG visa anyway and emailed me with the expected return date which was AFTER my clearly stated departure date. When reminded of this minor fact, they diid obtain my passport from the embassy and get it back to me in time but with an UZ visa for June / July not May / June. I thought that part of the 'Reliable! Accurate!'. service I was paying for included actually checking the dates on the visa but apparently not. Then began a frustrating two days of long periods on hold for me and stonewalling and denials on their part which resulted in no better outcome than being told that the consulate in Bishkek will fix it. After 10 days trying to get the UZ consulate in Bishkek to give me a new visa I had to cancel the UZ part of my trip. DO not use VisaHQ!

FYI I heard that if you are from a country without an UZ consulate you can get a visa at the airport. Some people apply in KG but the Bishkek UZ consulate follows very strict rules. If for example you show up with all your materials during their open hours, they will not take them because you do not have an appointmmet. You have to call to make an appointment (in Russian) after 2 pm Tu through Fri. You need to be present for the roll call at 10 on your appointment day. Some people reported waiting for 3 weeks for non rush visas. Rush visas supposedly may take 4 days but not in my experience. Bishkek is a pretty nice place to wait -- the coffee shops generally have free wifi (Sierra Coffee on Manas has excellent cappuccinos).

Thanks for the advice. I'll be flying directly to UZ from Istanbul, so the visa on arrival won't be an option for me, since Turkey has an UZ embassy. I'll need to obtain the visa before leaving Canada. I think I'll just send everything to Washington and trust things will turn out alright.

tfc123: Ask StanTours for the visa on arrival.
It's possible for you to get the VOA, no matter from what country you will fly and how much time you'd spend there.
I'm sure.
