It might be of surprise, as it's not the most traditional method, but you can map out areas using Google Earth. I looked up Andijon and the surrounding Ferghana Valley. It provided a clear image of the city layout. But it doesn't mark off individual locations as you may need in your research, though you can keep this suggestion in mind for future endeavors on Central Asia.
Also, if you can read the Cyrillic script or have any background in Russian, it's possible to translate some of the words for the photo captions to have an idea of what you may be looking at. It's not as difficult as it sounds, sometimes I find words from both languages that are generically alike.
