I have two weeks in summer and have always wanted to visit central asia. I can get there easily (I live in Istanbul) but when it's time to leave, I'll have to fly onwards to Hong Kong. I've searched and searched and I can't find any reasonable prices on flights. Am I missing something?

I need to fly around August 1-4 and I would be happy leaving from Bishkek, Tashkent, Samarkand, or Dushanbe… or anywhere else on the main tourist trail that I may have missed (but not Almaty). I'd also be up for getting a bus/car across the Torugart pass, but assume that the extra cost of the journey (150 USD, according to my book) plus a chinese visa would make this worthless.

What is a reasonable price to you? I see $437 from Tashkent to HKG on August 3rd on China Southern via Beijing, which doesn't strike me as too bad. Otherwise, if you're feeling adventurous, see if you can use that new Pegasus route from Bishkek to Delhi and link up with a cheap flight on DragonAir from there to HK?

Sounds good - I'll do some more reading about Almaty.

I didnt' know about pegasus expanding to Delhi - that's good news. So far you can't buy tickets on the website but we'll see. 226 USD from Istanbul to Delhi is pretty cheap! (Although I bet that's the price without taxes)
