Hi
I am going to Uz in Oct.
I will be staying at modest guesthouses , using share taxis to move from city to city and will eat simple food. I will pay to get into see stuff of course. How much cash in USD$ bills will I need for 14 nights in UZ.?
I presume that like in Iran , cash machines, plastic cards and TC.s are not much use.
My plan is Tashkent/Samarkand/Bukhara/Khiva.
I might go to Shakh i subz for a day trip and take a day tour from Khiva of the Qalas in Khorezm.
Maybe $30 per day.
Don't use cards and TCs as they will get you the official exchange rate, losing some 40% of your money.
Thanks.
I will use USD$ in cash like I did in Iran.
14 nights xUSD$40 =.......
I estimate that USD$570 will cover everything. I will take about USD $650 just in case but I will pay for the Urgench to Toshkent flight in advance via Stan tours.
I went for 2 weeks (Tashkent, Samarkand & Bukara with an overnight camel/yurt excursion). I stayed modestly except for staying at the Hotel Tashkent and the yurt excursion, which was expensive since i went solo. I took $2000 (because i am paranoid about running out of cash) and i came back with about $1000, but that also included spending 2 days in Seoul & buying Uzbek scarves & jewelry & whatnot. I'd say take $1000, even if you don't think you'll need all of it. Don't count on using any plastic.
So for 14 nights on a modest budget would USD$1000 in Cash in $100 bills cover it all in Uzbekistan?
I'll be heading over there in October 2012.I have the LP chapter and the Odyssey guidebook to UZBEKISTAN which is just fabulous.
My route reads like this
Tashkent 2 nights
share taxi to /or train
Samarkand 4 nights
day trip to Shkar i sabz
share taxi/jeep to Bukhara 4 nights
Share taxi/jeep to Khiva 3 nights
Air Urgench to Tashkent
2 more nights in Tashkent.
I have paid for the LOI/visa assistance and most of the domestic flight already via STAN tours.
