Hi all,
I'm back from the mini detour of Honduras and now to plan for the summer. Thinking of spending 3 weeks approx in Uzbekistan and take the train from Urgench to Samarkhand then go across Penjikent.
- Is the border at Penjikent is open? Open for foreigners?
- What hours are they open?
- If not, what other land border is closest?
Thanks in advance,
Ani.

The border post near Penjikent is close since a few years, you need to going South, on the way to Termez or use a border in the Sugdh. I have no maps now with me but most of people use these two options.

To add to this, the nearest border to the north (at Bekobad) was bilateral only so you'd have to get up to Oybek to cross and then go via Khojand through that dodgy half-finished tunnel down into the Fanns and Penjikent.

Termiz? That is further south than I wanted to go. Where is Sugdh? Is that the one east of Hovos?

The Sugdh is the Northern region of Tajikistan including Penjikent and the Tajik Ferghana.
