For those who may be interested here's a brief note about my recent experience about applying for a visa for Iran in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
I applied for the required code in Bishkek in late August using Stantours. I was able to pay the required fee (USD55) in person at Celestial Mountains Tour Agency at 131 Kiev St, Bishkek. This meant I didn't have to try and factor in any bank fees, etc.
I was advised it could take two to three weeks for the code to be sent to me but I was emailed the code after two business days of applying!!
When applying you have to advise which embassy you wish to collect your visa. I'd listed Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
When I arrived in Tashkent I went to the Iran Embassy at 20 Parkent St (taxi here is best as it's a bit of a walk from the nearest metro station). I arrived just before 9am but they let me in straight away.
I'd printed a copy of my code and had a colour copy of my passport information page ready as well which I handed to the embassy staff. One staff member looked through my passport for some time and asked me a number of questions like what i did for a job, was I travelling alone (yes), was I planning on travelling to Iran by plane or overland. After a little bit I was given an application form to complete with the usual questions.
I completed this and gave them two passport photos (make sure you're wearing a headscarf in the photo, ladies!!).
The visa would be processed in a week for 70 euros or on an urgent basis (one or two days) for 105 euros. I opted for the urgent visa processing.
I was then given a form and was told to take it to room 107 at the National Bank of Uzbekistan on Mustakillik St (near Hamid Olimjon metro station) to pay the 105 euro fee.
After going to the bank and paying the fee (make sure you have your customs declaration form with you for this) I was given a stamped receipt. I returned to the embassy and left my passport with them. I was told to call at 4pm to find out when the visa was ready.
I called at 4pm and the visa was ready then. Perhaps I was lucky as they didn't seem to be busy but I was very happy for it to have only taken one day.
