Uzbekistan Transit Visa

Country forums / Central Asia / Uzbekistan

Currently working in Bishkek. Found cheap flights to Tashkent over Xmas and New Year. Was thinking of a cheeky trip to Mazar-i-Sharif.

I found some information about Uzbek transit visas online but nothing concrete. I would need a double entry. Does this mean 2x transit visas? How much are they and do I need an LOI?

Also if anyone has anything bookmarked on the border corssing to Afghan that would be greatly appreciated.

To get transit Visa you have to provide the exact plan, and as we know they give maximum 5 days. If you plan to have two entries you need Double entry Tourist Visa.

I agree with the tourist double entry visa.
The border crossing Termez - Hairaton is a 2 hour thing, including almost 2 kilometers by foot.
You can arrange a private taxi, but they cost 50 dollars each way. They can take you all the way to Mazar, for around 100 USD.

$100 dollars from the border to Mazar. That seems awfully expensive. I figured a lot of traffic would be plying this route nowdays.

With transit visas you need to exit into a 3rd country right. To skimp on money it would be ideal to get a double entry uzbek transit and an Afghan transit, as I'm only going to have 6 days in Afghan as it is. Maybe it's on option, I'll have my 6 month employment LOI for Bishkek and my flight from Almaty - Bishkek proof.

cdnexpat, my plan was to get the cheapest local transport from Termiz to the border, walk a cross, then get whatever cheapest local transport I can from the border to Hairaton and then from there to Mazar. Any ideas of costs?

Actually, 100 dollars is for a taxi from the Termez airport, all the way to Mazar. The driver has visas to go across, and there is no need to walk.
A cheaper way is to get a local taxi to the border, then cross on foot, and then another local taxi to Mazar. That can be done for around 20 dollars, with haggling.
Good luck,
