Travelling from Uzbekistan to Tajikistan by train

Country forums / Central Asia / Tajikistan

Dear travellers,
my plan is to visit Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in october/november for three weeks. As Uzbekistan is concerned it is my second time. But it will be the first stay in Tajikistan. I will arrive in Tashkent on 16th of october, from there go to Samarkand and further to Termez and from there my plan is to go by train to Qurghonteppa. Does someone know if there is a train and if it is possible to cross the border that way? Beginning of november I will go back to Uzbekistan. How to get from Istaravshan to Namangan in uzbek part of Fergana valley? Thanks a lot for your answers!

Not sure about your exact route, but last month a took a night train from Samarkand to Denau, where we took a taxi about 50km to the Tajikistan border (and another hour or so to Dushanbe). The train was scheduled to leave Samarkand around 1am, but it was closer to 3am.

daniviyana, once you are in Samarkand take a train which goes either to Denau or to Termez. If you take the Termez one then make sure that you get off in Kumkurgan train station from there you can get a taxi to go to the border. It's not that far. And when you cross the border you get a taxi to go to Dushanbe which is more or less 50km.
