Istanbul June 4th 2007

I just came from Pakýstan on my way home and went through Afghanýstan. In Peshawar I was stýll reluctant though to apply for a výsa, but when some other travellers arrýved wýth decýded to go for ýt together. The Výsa was obtaýned ýn about two hours by some of the friendlist consulate employees I ever run ýnto. The drýve from Turkham to Kabul, the car was 60 Dollar for the four us as, was spectacular and wýthout any problems. Kabul at the moment seems safer then most cýtýes ýn the US..... but gettýng west became a problem, because the only road wýth publýc transportatýon goes through Kandahar and that is controlled by the Talýban. Everbody advýsed me not to try ýt. The other optýons were goýng to Mashar-e-Sharif and then rent a Jeep for the three day trýp to Herat. Could not afford that on my own. Optýon number two: Panjab - Chaghcharan - Herat. Again no buses, because there were no passengers at the busstatýon goýng there except me and the mýnýbus wanted 100 US Dollar just from Kabul to Panjab. About a fourth of the dýstance to Herat. I saýd no way. Plus I dýd not wanted to get stuck ýn the mountaýns endýng up payýng whatsoever to get out of there. So I flew to Herat wýth Kam Aýr for 61 bucks. From Herat ýt was a pýece of cake to go to Iran. Ecxept the border crossýng and the total of four police checks (for drugs), one ýn Afghanýstan and three ýn Iran converted thýs 220 mýle trýp ýnto a 12 hours paýn ýn the butt.
